How to Pick the Right Belt Size

4 August 2026

Belt sizing confuses most buyers because it does not match trouser sizing. A belt size refers to the length of the strap measured from the buckle fold to the middle hole.

## Measure your waist, not your trousers

Run a tape measure through the belt loops of the trousers you wear most, over the shirt you usually tuck in. Keep the tape snug, not tight. That number in inches is your belt size.

## Why it differs from trouser size

Trouser labels are cut sizes, not body measurements, and they vary between brands. A 32 trouser can measure anywhere from 32 to 34 inches at the waistband. Always trust the tape.

## If you are between sizes

Size up. A belt with one extra hole to spare wears comfortably; a belt that is short by an inch cannot be fixed.

Men's and women's belts run 28 to 60 inches. Kids' belts run 26 to 36 inches.
